Lumberjacks Coach Hits East Texas

He's charged with turning around the Stephen F. Austin football program, and he had some East Texas alumni to answer to tonight. SFA's new head football coach Robert McFarland spent the evening at Rick's On the Square in Tyler, no doubtedly telling the interested alum his game plan for taking last years 6-5 squad and turning it into a conference winner.

"We only went 1-4 in the league last year and that's not going to win you championships or get you in the playoffs," said McFarland, "and so that's something we have to address. We have to get our talent level and we have to get our players to play in league play to give us an opportunity not only to win a conference championship but to get intot the playoffs."

"This is where he shines," said SFA Alumni Association President Jason Wright.  "He's a very personable guy. I think this is exactly what the program needs, to have somebody get out here and get excited about lumberjack football again."

The Lumberjacks kick off their season at home against Henderson State on Thursday, September 1.
