Those Killed In The Line Of Duty Remembered

Those who died to protect us were honored today in Smith County. The service started with symbolic march of law enforcement officers from the Tyler Police Department to the downtown square. Flags were lowered to half staff; names of officers were read, and flowers placed in the memorial wreath. There was also a 21-gun salute and the symbolic rider-less horse.

The Tyler officers remembered seven of their own that have died in the line of duty over the years, along with eleven officers killed in Texas in the line of duty for 2004 and 2005.

Today's ceremony was in conjunction with National Police Memorial Week. The service was given by the Tyler Police Department, Tyler Fire Department, Department of Public Safety and the Smith County Sheriff's Department.
