TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A man was arrested after his attempt to rob a Tyler gas station was stopped by a deputy constable late Tuesday night.

According to Tyler Police officials, a Smith County Deputy Constable spotted the suspect before he entered the Super Food Mart Gas Station in the 2000 block of West Gentry Parkway, shortly before midnight.

The constable said the man's face was covered, so he decided to follow him into the store.

Once inside, the constable said the suspect, 21-year-old Martiness Jones-Bigham had pulled a knife and was in the process of robbing the clerk.

The constable immediately called for backup from Tyler police and held the suspect at gunpoint until he was arrested.

No one was hurt during the incident. Bigham remains in the Smith County Jail Wednesday morning.

Police say this case, as well as the recent gas station robberies that have occurred in the Tyler area are still under investigation.
