TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

According to Tyler police, a pedestrian wreck occurred at 6:17 p.m. on Front Street in front of the Cotton Belt building.

Our reporter at the scene says westbound traffic was shut down on Front St. at Glenwood as emergency officials work to clear the scene. The roadway has since then been reopened.  The location is 1517 W. Front Street, according to police.

Sgt. Adam Colby with the Tyler Police Department said that the visually-impaired pedestrian was jaywalking at a 45-degree angle from the south side of Front Street toward the Cotton Belt building. As the driver of a Toyota Tundra approached, headed westbound on Front Street, the sun obstructed his vision, and he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway until his vehicle struck him.

The pedestrian was taken to East Texas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Colby said. Accident investigators are on the scene. No charges are expected to be filed.
