EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - The two main party candidates – Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both continue to be blasted from the past.
If past behavior is a solid predictor of future behavior, then we, as a country, have problems no matter which way we vote. And I believe that most people admit that. Neither of these candidates fit the mold of what we want a president to be.
Trump is plagued by his mouth with his statements through the campaign and even before the campaign. Ultimately, who you are in the locker room is who you are.
Clinton is haunted by everything email which shows that nothing is ever truly deleted and everything you send can be used against you. She is flawed by the fact that she disavows and dodges responsibility at every turn.
Yet, as much as we want to like the respective candidates, it is dislike for the other that is driving the election. And, that dislike is not because of some massive marketing campaign, it is played out through sound bites and legitimate documents. Additionally, the debates do little other than galvanize each candidate's camp so they really don't serve a purpose other than to excite loyalists.
But all that said, sitting on the sideline and not voting is not an option. Down ticket candidates, federal, state and local need to be voted on by a majority of the population.
So, pick your candidate, hold your nose when you have to, and vote and keep voting. It is an imperfect system, but it's also the best in the world and it will make for a Better East Texas.
