TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Released by the Department of Transportation:

TYLER – Motorists are encouraged to avoid the construction project at Loop 323 and SH 31 in Tyler starting Sunday afternoon, October 9. The contractor is implementing work that will cause major impacts to traffic.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, the work zone will become increasingly busy around the clock through Thursday. On Sunday afternoon, the contractor will be realigning the northbound mainlanes to its permanent configuration in preparation for a traffic switch that will open the outside and middle lanes.

Regular daytime work involving median construction will take place Monday and Tuesday with two lanes open in each direction to traffic.

Night work starts at 7 o’clock Monday through Wednesday with multiple lane closures to accommodate milling operations on Loop 323 and SH 31. Scheduled work includes:

-          Monday Night: Work occurs on Loop 323 south of the railroad overpass in the middle and outside lanes. Traffic will be moved to varying lanes as necessitated by the work. This work will impact northbound and southbound traffic.

-          Tuesday Night: Work occurs on Loop 323 north of the railroad overpass in the middle and outside lanes. Traffic will be moved to varying lanes as necessitated by the work. This work will impact northbound and southbound traffic.

-          Wednesday Night: Work occurs on SH 31 east and west of Loop 323 in the middle and outside lanes. Traffic will be moved to varying lanes as necessitated by the work. This work will impact eastbound and westbound traffic.

Major daytime impacts will occur starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday when the contractor applies seal coat to the mainlanes of Loop 323 and to SH 31 on Friday. Work is scheduled for the northbound lanes Wednesday and the southbound lanes Thursday. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes during this work.
