LINDALE, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas police officer is on administrative leave after a shooting late Friday night.

A man was hospitalized after being shot by a Lindale police officer in the 2700 hundred block of South Main Street in Lindale at Jackie's Office Club. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.

"We saw police vehicles and ambulances coming down Main Street and we were heading this direction already so when we get down close to the Wingstop we see lights and cars and we start to slow down," said the witness, Kendrick Price Jr.

Price said shots were fired as they got closer to the club.

"We see the officer exit the vehicle and he starts to fire at the man. We see him hit the ground and then his shirt. He had a white t-shirt that was just completely covered with blood," Price said.

Just down the road Lindale resident R.J. Norman said he was prepping for a garage sale when he said he heard rapid gunfire.

"It was around midnight and all of a sudden we heard echoing pop, pop, pop, pop," Norman said.

Price said he didn't see an altercation or if the man that was shot was holding a weapon.

"We just saw the immediate shooting. We didn't see what took place before that or where they came from. We just pulled up at the right moment," Price said.

Price said Lindale is typically quiet and the shooting has taken many by surprise.

"That just shows anything can happen in the world that we live in. It's crazy to see that. It's stuff out of movies on tv shows, that doesn't happen in person. It's just crazy to actually see it happen," Price said.

No officers were injured in the incident. Neither identities have been released at this time.

We've reached out to Lindale PD and the Texas Rangers and they have not released any details about what led to the shooting.
