Afternoon news blast: Matthew moving towards Caribbean

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Good Wednesday afternoon, East Texas. Hope you are having a wonderful hump day.

Here are a few stories for you to check out in your spare time this afternoon:

1. A new tropical storm is heading towards the Caribbean. Tropical Storm Matthew became the 13th named storm of the season, according to the National Hurricane Center.  Matthew is moving west at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

2. Sad news out of South Carolina this afternoon where two students and a teacher were injured after being shot during an incident at an elementary school. They were transported to local hospitals. However, the extent of their injuries has not been released.

3. Construction is causing major delays on the interstate in Gregg County Wednesday.TxDot crews are working on the eastbound side of I-20 between mile marker 579 and mile marker 586.

4. A very quite 'fall' weather pattern is setting up over the southern United States. High pressure should remain in control of our weather for the next several days. Yes, a weak cold front will push through very late tonight and through the morning tomorrow, but for the most part, we should see lots of sunshine and fairly calm days ahead. Watch KLTV7 News at 5 and 6 for the latest update from Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto.
