Police Have Taken Suspected Car Thieves Into Custody

Longview Police believe they have caught up with the suspected car thieves who, on Tuesday afternoon, lead them on a high- speed chase.

It started when officers tried to stop a Volkswagon Jetta that had been reported stolen. Instead of stopping, police say the driver took off along airline road going 85 miles an hour; finally crashing at Tryon Road.

The driver and a passenger then took off into the woods. Police tell us a tip from a 13 year old boy helped them find the suspects. He saw the two men getting into a car, and even got the license plate number.

That information led police to the Summer Green Apartments where they were able to take the suspects into custody. They will be arraigned on Wednesday.
