Army Knew Tillman Died From Friendly Fire Within Days, According To New Report

The Washington Post is reporting that Army officials knew within days of Pat Tillman's death in Afghanistan that the former N-F-L player had been killed by friendly fire.

A new Army report is said to show that top Army officials were aware an investigation had determined the death was caused by an act of "gross negligence" four days before a nationally televised memorial service for Tillman.

Tillman turned down a multimillion-dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army after Nine-Eleven. He was killed on April 22, 2004. The Post reports in its online edition that troops on the scene said they were immediately sure Tillman was killed by a barrage of American bullets.

The Post also reports that documents it obtained show that officers destroyed critical evidence.
