The third time is the charm for the Dallas Mavericks, who finally win a home playoff game in their series with Houston. The Rockets ride a double double from Dirk Nowitzi to the 103-100 win. Yao Ming led the Rockets with 30 points, while Tracy McGrady dropped in 25. McGrady had a shot at the buzzer that could have tied the game. It was the first time this series that the home team was able to win. The Mavericks now hold a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 is Thursday night in Houston. The mavericks win comes in the wake of the largest fine ever issued to an NBA coach. Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy was fined $100,000 for accusing officials of targeting Rockets center Yao Ming following complaints from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Van Gundy told reporters last night that a referee not working the playoffs had warned him that officials were watching Yao more closely. Van Gundy says Cuban has gotten the benefit of several calls. Commissioner Cavid Stern calls the fine an intermediary step, saying that an investigation will continue once the Rockets finish their playoff run. Stern added that further punishment is possible, even implying that Van Gundy could face a lifetime ban. The NBA says no such directive was given to the officials regarding Yao or any other player or team in the playoffs. Cuban issued an e-mail saying the accusations were "crazy" and "an insult to officials."
