Cell Phone "Do Not Call List"

The widely circulate e-mail says this  Just a reminder. In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls that you will be charged for. To prevent this join the do not call list cell phone registry". Can this be true?

No; according to the FTC and the do not call registry. Here's what is.

First, it's illegal for telemarketers to call your cell phone and the FTC says your cell number will never be released to a telemarketing company.

Second the federal government doesn't even maintain a national cell phone registry. The FTC only has a general do-not-call list. Since 2003 anybody who wants to can put their land line or cell phone number on that list, but the FTC says there's no need to register your cell phone because telemarketers can't call it.

They say the only telemarketing calls allowed on your cell are business to business calls you've allowed for.
