Raising awareness and protecting the safety of motorcycle riders in East Texas. That was the goal of an event held in Tyler Saturday.
It was dubbed the "Motorcycle and Motorist Awareness Event."
The "Gold Wing Road Riders Association" organized it. They hope awareness will reduce the number of crashes and close calls between motorists and motorcycles on the roads.
"There are more and more motorcycles out on the highway everyday," said Ralph Messer, Chapter Director of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. "The problem we're having is we're sharing the same roads and the same lanes that they're driving in. We want to make them aware that we're there."
Organizers said they did not want to promote motorcycles, just safety. They plan to make "Motorcycle and Motorist Awareness" an annual event.
