NATCHITOTCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Louisiana State Police are investigating a wreck that claimed the life of a Longview, Texas man.

Troopers were called to the crash around 3 p.m. Monday which happened on I-49 south of LA Hwy. 485.

According to police, the crash involved a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by 18-year-old Deytwan Demetrius of Fort Polk, LA and a 2015 Toyota Camry, driven by 39-year-old Jabe Maddox.

Troopers say the Honda was southbound on I-49 when Demetrius lost control and entered the median that separates the southbound lanes from the northbound lanes. The Honda reportedly continued through the median and entered the northbound lanes of I-49, where it collided with the Toyota.

Demetrius received minor injuries and was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. His only passenger, 18-year-old Trevon Lewis of Leesville, received minor injuries and was also taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.

Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say all occupants involved were properly restrained.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending, according to authorities.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's deputies, Louisiana State Police, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS, Natchitoches Sheriff's Rescue and Natchitoches Fire Districts 6 and 7 all responded to the scene.
