UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Upshur County deputies discovered a marijuana field Thursday afternoon in Upshur County.

Law enforcement officials say they were searching a wooded area north of Gilmer when they found a marijuana grow operation. Officials discovered 2,500 plants in northern Upshur County.

The sheriff's office says there was evidence that someone had set up a grove and was actively tending the plants. A makeshift campsite and several planting areas were located during the search. Deputies also found a water source, running from a creek to the plants.

Texas Department of Public Safety helicopters assisted in the investigation, airflighting bundles from the location of the grow.

An official with the department said the discovery was a substantial victory because it was located before it could be processed.

At this time no suspects are in custody. Upshur County authorities say a tip led them to the area.

Authorities are trying to find out who planted the field and who was taking care of it. Anyone with information should contact the Upshur County Sheriff's Office.
