EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Tiffani Watkins is the latest East Texas woman to step into the country music spotlight in Nashville. Will she have the same kind of success as Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves?
Tiffani says although her success has been a long time coming, music has always been her passion.
"My family had pushed me to get out of the living room. You need to let somebody hear you just besides us. You need to really show the world what you can do," she said.
Tiffani began her public appearances with her cowboy church band.
"It really grew my passion to play more and it was a calling from God, too," Tiffani said.
Nashville's iconic Bluebird Cafe is where so many country music stars got their start.
'You're No Good' is one of a number of songs Tiffani has written. Writing has almost become a prerequisite for success in Nashville these days.
"I would sit and play guitar for hours until my fingers hurt, but it wasn't until last year that I started writing. It opened up a different side that I didn't know I had in me," Tiffani said.
Writing her own songs has not only opened up a new side of Tiffani's talent, it's opened up new opportunities for her as well.
"Writing is a new found passion. About a year ago, I started writing my own lyrics and music and songs, and that recently won me the round one of the contest at Lindale Cannery," Tiffani said. "That won me round one of that competition and I'm advancing in the finals which will be in October."
Tiffani just returned from performing in a showcase production in Nashville, which she describes as 'amazing.' So far, she's pretty satisfied with the progress of her career.
"I just want to enjoy the ride. I don't want things to move too quickly, and I want to stay in East Texas as long as I can, although I know a move to Nashville is coming pretty soon, and when it comes, I'm ready for it," she explained.
Look out Nashville, Tiffani Watkins is on her way.
Her next performance in East Texas will be at Moore's Store in Ben Wheeler on September 30.
