TXU Electric Delivery Workers "Deliver" A Home Sweet Home

An East Texas woman's home is transformed in to a safe place she can raise a family. More than a dozen volunteers gave their time to clean up repair Arlisa Roberson's home. It's the house where Arlisa grew up. The same house she hopes to raise her three children in. But time, and water damage took its toll on Arlisa's childhood haven. For the past year, it wasn't safe for anyone to live in.

"I had hip surgery last year," Arlisa explained, "and while I was in the hospital water came all through the house. It just had mold everywhere and water damage was everywhere."

But thanks to the city of Tyler, local contractors and 24 volunteers from TXU Electric Delivery, her house will once again be a home. "This was a home that needed quite a bit of work," said George Bennett, Tyler manager, for TXU Electric Delivery, "and we're doing some weatherization, we're doing some painting, we're cleaning up the yard."

From as far away as Sherman, Terrell and Lufkin, these volunteers gave of their Saturday and put a little elbow work in to giving someone else their dream. "We've got teams on all sides of the house," George said. "I'm just ecstatic, this is a miracle," Arlisa said. A new roof, fresh paint, a clear yard, and a few weatherization improvements to make Arlisa's home cost efficient and safe for her kids. "It's just an exciting thing. It makes me feel like I'm a part of 'Extreme Makeoever,' city of Tyler," Arlisa said. "I'm just blessed to have family and friends, and church members and other organizations that have just played a huge part. I just want to say thank you to them."

After it was all said and done, Arlisa's old memories, the childhood happiness and her parents home stood proudly once again. "I'm speechless," Arlisa said, "because this is all unbelievable" TXU Electric Delivery chose Arlisa's home because it was part of Tyler's neighborhood block grant program. The company offers help to the elderly and low income citizens with weatherization improvement and home assistance.
