Longview Gets Vital Search Equipment

The Gregg County Sheriff's Department now have a new tool to aid in the search for missing persons. It's called Project Lifesaver after its mission to help find those who wander away.

The bracelets have been credited for more than 1,000 successful search and rescue missions of Alzheimer's patients and those with other disorders.

The bracelet contains a 1 ounce, battery-operated, radio wrist transmitter. It emits an automatic tracking signal 24 hours a day. This silent signal allows rescuers to conduct searches from the ground or in the air.

Fifteen sheriff's deputies and volunteers are undergoing training by members of the Victoria County Sheriff's Department.

It was the first county in Texas to join Project Lifesaver.
