EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Good Thursday morning, East Texas. As we work our way towards the weekend, here are a few stories for you to check out today:

1. The temperatures keep climbing but that will not be stopping firefighters and first responders across East Texas from doing their jobs. Departments around the region are looking at ways they can keep crews safe from getting too hot at scenes where they are already under the sun and a lot of heavy gear.

2. An East Texan remained in a coma Wednesday night after a 65-foot fall from a cliff in Alaska. Sterling Horton, 21, a West Rusk High School graduate, was hiking with a friend on Flat Top Mountain in Anchorage when he fell. Relatives of Horton discussed his recovery and community support with KLTV reporter, Kim Leoffler. Read the full story.

3. A woman shared live video Wednesday on Facebook of her fiance's final moments after he was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop. She said they had been pulled over for a broken tail light. You can read the rest of the story here, but the video is graphic and may be disturbing to some.

4. Look for a mix of clouds and sunshine with Hot & humid conditions. Afternoon highs will warm into the mid to upper 90s and heat indices will warm to 105-108. A HEAT ADVISORY remains in effect for most of ETX thru Thursday evening. Be sure to stay hydrated, and avoid long periods of time out in the direct sunlight when at all possible. Our rain chances have to come to an end for a while across the area. Tonight we will see partly clear skies with warm & muggy conditions continuing. Look for overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s.
