COPY-Cries of 'black' rise from St. Peter's Square

VATICAN CITY Tens of thousands of pilgrims in St. Peter's Square all began muttering the same thing today when it became apparent that cardinals hadn't selected a new pope.

Upon seeing the dark smoke rise above the roof of the Sistine Chapel where the conclave is taking place they began saying the word "black." However, most weren't saying it in the same language.

Crowds of pilgrims are there not just to watch and wait for the new pope but also to rally for their favorite candidate.

One Honduran said it would be "ideal" for the church to select a cardinal from his country. But if the church doesn't, he says "we'll learn to love him just like we learned to love John Paul."
