COPY-Proud Of East Texas: Mrs. Lee's Garden

From early February until the middle of March, Mrs. Lee's Daffodil Garden, located just outside Gladewater, is a golden blanket of glorious, sunny daffodils. The golden flowers grow on hillsides, in pastures, in woodlands, and any where else the tiny bulbs can sink their roots on the 918 acre property.

Daffodils were Helen Lee's favorite flower, so when she decided to plant them on her rural property, she ordered an entire boxcar load from Holland. Over the years the daffodils have multiplied into millions.

Helen Lee died in 1984, willing her daffodil garden to the enjoyment of the public.

People come from all over the world to see the garden. There's no admission charge. Helen Lee just wanted others to enjoy her beautiful golden flowers, as much as she did.
