The city of Whitehouse has chosen this year's Mr. and Mrs. YesterYear.
The mayor recognized life-long residents Acker and Bobbie Hanks for their service to the community.
The YesterYear organization says the Hanks helped build the local YMCA and they've contributed greatly to the city's heritage.
"At first, I didn't want to see Whitehouse grow, when I first was a little fellow," Acker said. "I was happy like it was. But I saw that after General Electric came in and Lake Tyler was here, I saw that it was going to grow whether I wanted it to or not. So I thought the best thing to do was to be a part of it."
Today's event was only the first of several for this 23rd annual celebration. The next one is a parade and coronation ball the last weekend of June.
