Young Ladies Expanding Their Horizons

Some young ladies in East Texas are turning their attention to becoming career women.

"Expanding Your Horizons" is a career conference for young ladies grades 6 through 8.

Hundreds of girls from districts across East Texas attended workshops at Tyler Junior College, about careers in science, engineering, math and technology.

The workshops were led by women who have been successful in their fields. KLTV 7's Gillian Sheridan handed out door prizes for the girls who attended. Many students left Saturday's conference with a sure plan for their future.

"You can be anything you want to be if you put your mind to it," said student Shavonea Green.

"This is great," said Jennifer Love, "It's an opportunity for me to see all the different women doing the same thing over and over again, not only men."

Cash prizes were given to the schools with the most students attending the conference. $100 was present to Tyler's Stewart Middle School. Sixty-nine young ladies from the school were in attendance.
