East Texan Killed In Afghanistan Crash

An East Texan, a civilian, working as an engineering specialist in Afghanistan was one of the victims of the recent helicopter crash there. A total of 18 soldiers and civilians died more than a week ago during severe weather, among them was east Texan Ronn Wade.

"He felt like it was his way to serve his country after 9-11" says wife Nancy Wade.

"He loved life he said lets do it, he enjoyed life he really did" his mother Barbara Wade said.

Ronn Wade served our country as a civilian in Afghanistan for 16 months. He was killed more than a week ago in a helicopter crash near "Ghazni".

"It's going to be very difficult , he was my best friend , my husband" says Nancy.

This family is familiar with tragedy. Ronn's cousin was a Lt. Colonel, killed during the September 11th terror attacks at the pentagon. Ronn was not a soldier, but his family says he did as much as anyone to help the war- torn country.

"What kept him there was the Afghan people he really loved the people, but more he loved the children" Nancy says.

Ronn often spent his own money to feed Afghan children. All that a mother and a wife have now, is memories of a good man, memories that show you do not have to be a soldier to be a hero.

"Yeah theres been a lot of memories , a lot of memories. He was a very good son" Barbara says. Ronn Wade will be laid to rest by his family in Emory on Sunday.
