Sherman Dollison was presented a plaque from the District Attorney's office. He was shot multiple times in the February 24th Smith County Courthouse shooting. He was left in critical condition for weeks. Friday, with the help of a cane, Dollison was able to leave his bedside to accept his award.
"We're just as happy as we can be that he's up walking around. It's really a miracle. We just wanted to let him know, with this plaque, just how appreciative the D.A.'s office is for his service and the sacrifices he's made," says Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham.
The plaque was given in conjunction with National Crime Victims' Rights Week. Bingham says people should not forget that officers can be victims of crime too.
