Tyler's Mayor Says CenterPoint Energy Just Won't Be Accountable

They just don't want to be accountable. That's what Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber says of CenterPoint Energy. Many tyler customers have received unusually high natural gas bills in the last few months. And now, instead of individual cities reviewing gas costs, proposed Senate Bill 1169 would give that power to the Texas Railroad Commission.

Mayor Seeber is against it, testifying in front of a Senate committee Tuesday. He says the city has tried to negotiate with CenterPoint over the rates.

"They didn't want to do so. They've really been arrogant. They've really been obstructionist the entire way. They haven't wanted to talk to us, so unfortunately we're in the position we're in," Seeber said Wednesday.

The city has sued CenterPoint alleging illegal price manipulation. The Texas Railroad Commission has put off a decision on the city's complaints to an, as yet, unspecified date.
