Tuesday's Weather: Warm and humid with scattered afternoon showers. Highs in the upper 80s

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Scattered showers are back in the forecast Tuesday, but there's a better chance for rain by the end of the work week.

With high pressure to our east and low pressure to our west, we're still under an unsettled weather pattern in East Texas today. This set up has our winds coming in from the south, pulling in that humid air into the region. As that moisture meets up with the heat of the day this afternoon, scattered showers and a few isolated storms will start to pop up. Highs will reach the upper 80s this afternoon.

Most of us will be dry today, but for those of us who happen to have a shower fire up over their area, we could see around 0.25" of rain. For those of us who happen to have an isolated storm over their area, could see a brief downpour.

The threat for severe weather will be low for our Tuesday, but we could see a few isolated strong to severe storms, a lot like yesterday. The main threats will be quarter size hail and winds around 60 mph.

Scattered showers will continue overnight, into Wednesday morning.

There will be a better chance for rain Thursday through Friday, as an area of low pressure moves through the region, from the west. This low will bring more scattered showers and storms into East Texas Thursday, becoming more widespread by Friday. The main threat for severe weather will be to our west, but we could see a few strong to severe storms Friday afternoon and evening.

With up to 4" of rain possible (especially for our western areas, like Athens and Palestine) the main threat Thursday through Friday will be flash flooding.

Because of the possibility for disruptive weather, Thursday and Friday will be First Alert Weather Days. Stay tuned to the First Alert Weather team for updates!

Lows will stay in the 70s with highs in the 80s all week.

High pressure will build in this weekend, bringing mostly sunny skies by Sunday... just in time for the Memorial Day holiday.
