Restaurant Owner Sent To Prison

The former owner of Little Italy Restaurant in Longview has been sentenced to federal prison for selling drugs in his own business. Billy Kaba will begin serving his 14-year prison sentence immediately. Kaba pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and weapons possession. His attorney says certain factors should have been considered before the judge issued the sentence.

"Number one, he didn't have any extensive criminal history," says Michael Todd, Kaba's defense attorney. "The fact that he has a family, has young children that depended on him as the main breadwinner."

Kaba could have received as much as 20 years, had the case gone to trial. As part of the plea, several counts on the indictment were dropped.
