Tyler Police Honored At Banquet

Harvey Hall was packed tonight with some of the best law officers you'll ever come across. The Tyler Police Department held its annual Awards Banquet tonight honoring civilian employees, sworn officers and exemplary citizens.

Rookie of the Year honors went to Scott Behrend and Officer of the Year was Kevin Bright.

The department also honored about 75 employees, who went beyond the call of duty in February, when a man opened fire on the Smith County Courthouse. One of those people was Tyler Police Detective, Clay Perret who was injured by shrapnel from the gunman's bullets. Perret received the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart, it's the department's highest honor.

Tyler dispatchers who were working that February day, received Certificates of Merit for their handling of the situation.
