Austin Elementary Students Have New Reason To Smile

With the help of a local church, some Tyler children have more reasons to smile.  The kids at Austin Elementary were able to test out a new playground Wednesday afternoon.
The school is located in North Tyler near Gentry.
What was once a vacant lot, is now a playground with swings and a jungle gym.
Wednesday was the first time the students were allowed to play on the new playground. It was made possible by the Christ Episcopal Church.
When a church member noticed the students only had two old tires to play on, he asked the church for help.
It's a hit with some young experts.  "It's really helpful for the little kids," said Jesus Carbejaa, a student at the school, "because it just, all that was there was just plain grass but now the church has built something fun for us."
The church and the school raised more than $7,000 for the project.
When the new Austin Elementary campus is built, scheduled through the TISD bond, the playground will be moved to the new location.
