Here's an idea for National grilled cheese sandwich day, plus a few new ways to make your grilled cheese go from boring to brag-worthy!

Ingredients:
Country white or sourdough bread slices
Softened butter
Sliced Swiss cheese
Sliced cheddar cheese
Sliced deli ham
Dijon mustard
Apple butter

Method:
Butter one side of a slice of bread, and place on skillet set over medium-high heat. Spread the upward-facing side of bread with Apple butter, then top with two ham slices and one or two cheese slices. Spread other bread slice on one side with mustard, and other side with butter, and place atop sandwich. Flip several times until both sides are golden brown and cheese is melting.

Enjoy!

Tex-Mex grilled cheese:

Ingredients:

Country white or sourdough bread slices
Softened butter
taco seasoning
shredded lettuce
chopped or thinly-sliced tomatoes
guacamole
green salsa
shredded Mexican cheese blend

Method:

Place buttered-side of one slice of bread on skillet set over medium-high heat. Spread upward-facing side with green salsa. Sprinkle with generous amount of cheese, then a few pinches of taco seasoning. Add lettuce and tomatoes, and a few dollops of guacamole (or spread guacamole on other bread slice).

Top with second buttered bread slice, and cook both sides until golden brown.
