North Carolina Wins National Title

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the NCAA Men's Basketball Champions, doing it with a 75-70 win over Illinois at St. Louis. The Tar Heels blew a 15-point lead in the second half and were tied at 70 with 2:38 remaining. But freshman Marvin Williams provided the tiebreaking tip-in with 1:26 left before Raymond Felton went 3-for-4 from the line in the final 26 seconds. Sean May had 26 points and nine rebounds for the Tar Heels, who last won the tournament in 1993. May shot 10-for-11 from the field to help head coach Roy Williams finally win his first NCAA title. Felton finished with 17 points and seven assists. Rashad McCants was shut out after scoring a team-high 14 points in the first half. Luther head led the Illini's second-half comeback, scoring 15 of his 21 points after the break. Head drained a three-pointer that knotted the score at 70.
