Deep dish breakfast pizza with sausage, eggs and bacon

(KLTV/KTRE) - When we heard it was Deep Dish Pizza Day, we couldn't let it pass without sharing a great recipe to start the day with! Try this one out to celebrate the day, or have it for dinner, because breakfast for dinner is always a winner.

Deep Dish Breakfast pizza with sausage, eggs and bacon
Yield: 8 generous slices


Two 13.8 ounce rolls pizza dough (in the dairy section near the biscuits)
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
4 strips cooked bacon, crumbled
1 1/2 cups Little Smokies breakfast sausages, chopped
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
4 small green onions, washed and sliced into rounds


1. Spray a large cookie sheet or pizza pan with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. Unroll both pizza doughs, and lay one directly on top of the other. Press and stretch with your hands until it's the size and shape you'd like. It does not have to be perfect! 
3. Combine eggs and milk in a small bowl, and whisk until combined and lightened in color. Pour over pizza dough, leaving about 1 1/2 inches of crust bare.
4. Spread the egg evenly around the dough with the back of a spoon or a pastry brush, then sprinkle with the mozzarella.
5. Add the chopped sausage, broken up bacon pieces, and green onions, distributing evenly over the dough. Top with the cheddar cheese.
6. Bake on lower rack of oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until eggs are firm and crust is golden brown. This will vary by oven, so keep an eye on it. 
7. Allow to cool for five minutes, then slide onto a cutting board and cut with sharp knife or pizza cutter. Serve with hot sauce sprinkled over it, if desired.
