Longview Catholics Remember Pope John Paul II

At "Saint Marys" catholic church in Longview, church members are fondly remembering pope John Paul II. They kept a constant prayer vigil for the ailing pontiff over the last few days. Hundreds of candles have been burning for the pope since he became ill. With the death of the longtime leader of the roman catholic church, many are reflecting on his remarkable life.

"His legacy is his personal witness of integrity that he lives by, what he believes is valuable the dignity of the human person and the sacredness of mankind and the hope for the future to be better than the past has been" said father Gavin Vaverek of St. Marys.

"He was in Poland during the Nazi's and communists, he's had an amazing life, but i think his most shining moment, and saddest, was when he went to the man who tried to assassinate him and to forgive him" says father Martin Gerber of St. Marys.

"Saint Mary's" will hold another prayer vigil tonight at 7 o'clock.  Bob Hallmark reporting.
