Homeland Security Equipment In Longview

Some very important hardware for homeland security was delivered to Longview today, with a special visit by U.S. Senator, John Cornyn.

Cornyn was on hand at Longview City Hall today for the presentation of a new Haz-mat Comsystem valued at more than 62-thousand dollars. The equipment is a Sensir Technologies device that will enhance hazardous materials protection for Gregg County.

The presentation was made at a press conference earlier this afternoon, and it was a very thankful fire chief who received the equipment.

"What the device does is, it is designed to help us identify solids, liquids, materials that are suspicious, anything unknown we run up against, anytime we encounter some suspicious materials," said Longview Fire Chief, Richard Lazarus.

The equipment was purchased with funds obtained by Gregg County from a Homeland Security grant.
