Malakoff School Fire Follow-up

Fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire that destroyed part of Malakoff Elementary School earlier this month. School officials tell us it was a faulty extension cord. It destroyed the building that houses head start and first grade.

More than 250 students and 21 teachers were without classrooms. No exact damage estimate has yet been determined. Tonight, Superintendent Larry Hulsey, will present the school board with a $10- million bond proposal. It calls for the construction of two new elementary schools. One of those will replace the burned building. The other school would be built on the west side of the district.
