Smith County still does not have a litter abatement officer to deal with people "trashing East Texas."
That's been the case for more than two weeks. The officer, Danny Brasher, is still at home recovering, after he was rushed to the hospital twice for clogged arteries in his heart. He began having the problems the same day commissioners voted to move him from one constable's office to another.
Brasher told us he'll stay at home for the next month and is uncertain about his future after that. Meanwhile, constables are stepping in to deal with the litter and illegal dumping.
