The Historic Texas Theatre in Palestine has hosted a number of great shows over the years, but beginning March 17, a cast of players will take the stage to present a comedy as big as the state of Texas.

From the Palestine Community Theatre:

Celebrate Texas at the Texas Theatre this month! Palestine Community Theatre presents Texas-size comedy in Rex’s Exes, under the direction of Dana Goolsby, the last two weekends of March. March marks important moments in Texas history and is the perfect time to celebrate what makes Texans so unique!

Rex’s Exes, the sequel to the first show Goolsby directed at the Texas in 2013, The Red Velvet Cake War, is a deliriously funny southern-friend farce, set in Texas. As the outrageous complications of this ferociously funny Jones-Hope-Wooten comedy explode into chaos, you'll find yourself hoping your next family celebration—be it birthday, wedding or funeral—is even half this much fun!

“After directing The Red Velvet Cake War, I was not sure if I would ever find a funnier show. Then I saw the sequel, Rex’s Exes in Jefferson, Texas. It may we be funnier than Red Velvet,” said director Dana Goolsby.

Goolsby continued, “I love to laugh and I love Texas. Any time I can combine my two passions it’s a good day. The cast and I have laughed five nights a week for the past two months, and we can’t wait to share this show with our audiences. Laughter really is the best medicine, so we encourage everyone to come get a dose and support the arts in the process.”

Most of the cast from The Red Velvet Cake War is returning to reprise their roles, however, PCT is proud to welcome several new faces to the stage.

“Any time we can add to our theatre family, we are better for it,” said Goolsby. “It takes a lot of volunteers to keep the doors open and the Texas sign glowing.”

Show dates for Rex’s Exes are March 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25 and 26. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30p.m. and Sunday at 2p.m.

A complimentary red velvet themed reception will be held on Friday night beginning at 6:30p.m. The curtain will open at 7:30p.m.

Tickets are $10 for students, ages 4-18, and $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased locally at the Palestine Visitor Center, Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, Dogwood Diner, Blake Furniture and Discount Pools and Spas in Elkhart. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.outhousetickets.com
