U.S. Officials Promise Quick Assistance To Indonesian Quake Victims

U-S officials are promising a quick response to the latest major earthquake in South Asia.

Yesterday the region was hit by an eight-point-seven magnitude quake. It struck a little more than three months after a nine-point-oh quake triggered a tsunami that killed at least 174-thousand people.

The U-S was criticized for acting too slowly to that one.

A State Department spokesman says they are putting themselves "in battle mode to be in a position where we can know what's going on and act appropriately if and when it's necessary."

He also says officials are applying what they learned following the December tragedy.
