Weight Gain & Pills

Many Americans are prescribed prescription drugs every day. But some popular prescriptions have an unpopular side effect, weight gain.

Pat Brown has rheumatoid arthritis and has suffered weight gain because of the medication she takes.

Many drugs cause weigh gain, including diabetic drugs like Insulin or Glipzide, antidepressants like Paxil and Zoloft, anti-inflammatories like Cortisone and Prednisone, and psychotic drugs like Clozapine and Zyprexa also cause weight gain.

If you take these drugs and want to battle weight gain, pharmacists say you have a few options.

Lowering your dose or diet and exercise can help you shed unwanted weight when on medication. Pharmacists also say water pills can help. They also suggest talking with your doctor about other medicine options.
