EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Perhaps you have seen news reports on a series of fires in the Longview area that have been ruled as acts of arson.
The news reports typically report the fires one-by-one as they have occurred but now, it is painfully obvious that more than a dozen fires are the work of one or several arsonists.
Fortunately, no one has been injured in these crimes but these are obviously dangerous situations and law enforcement needs all our help. Several of these fires have been set during the day while others are carried out at night. Some are in homes, others in businesses.
That creates a scenario where all citizens can be on watch at all times for anything out of the ordinary. These criminal actions have impacted numerous lives by destroying property and memories. It is hard enough when destructive forces are a result of weather or some other phenomenon but when they are a result of malicious individuals, they are unacceptable.
Additionally, these fires have been averaging nearly one fire a week and, with the dry weather we are experiencing, it is only a matter of time before a human tragedy occurs. Law enforcement is asking for help from the public because they cannot be everywhere all the time. So be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or fire department.
Someone somewhere has seen or will see something and these criminals need to be stopped. Putting the handcuffs on arsonists will make for a Better East Texas.
