CANTON, TX (KLTV) -

Police officers, Van Zandt County sheriff's deputies, DPS troopers and Canton firefighters responded to the scene of a wreck at the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 243 in Canton on Monday afternoon.

The two-vehicle wreck involved a Van Zandt County deputy and a civilian. The civilian suffered what a deputy at the scene called "severe injuries" and was treated for her injuries in an ambulance before being flown to Tyler by a medical helicopter. The deputy was taken to a Tyler hospital by EMS.

A witness who has a nearby business said the deputy had her siren and emergency lights on while approaching the intersection. She said she saw the deputy's SUV t-bone the white car in the intersection. It is unclear at this time whether either party ran through a red light.
