2005 East Texas Kickoff Classic Unveiled

Tyler, TX - The four-game lineup for the 2005 East Texas Football Classic will be highlighted by defending class 5A, Div. I State Champion Robert E. Lee in Tyler hosting one of the nation's premier high schools in the finale of the August 25-26-27 event in Tyler. The Lee Red Raiders will kickoff defense of their first-ever state championship against Chaminade Madonna HS, which is located in Hollywood, Fla. Chaminade Madonna captured a Florida state title in 2003 and was a state semifinalist in 2004 after starting its season at 10-0. The 8 pm kickoff on August 27 between 5A Robert E. Lee and 3A Chaminade Madonna will be the finale of four games in the East Texas Football Classic, which returns to Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium to kickoff the high school football season and further showcase the excellence that is East Texas football. 3A Gilmer and 4A Pine Tree HS in Longview will open the East Texas Football Classic for the second straight season, at 8 pm on August 25. Gilmer followed suit with Robert E. Lee in 2004 by winning its first-ever state championship, culminating an unbeaten 16-0 season with a 3A, Div. I Texas bowl victory last December. 4A Texas HS in Texarkana and 5A John Tyler HS in Tyler will be showcased again in the East Texas Football Classic, with a kickoff of 8 pm on August 26. The exciting rivalry will be the unveiling of John Tyler head coach Thomas Brooks, against the 4A, Div. I State Champions from 2002 and 4A, Div. I state quarterfinalists in '04. The third game of the East Texas Football Classic will pit Wylie hs against The Colony HS, at 4 pm on August 27. 4A Wylie became the first Texas public high school to oppose a California high school last season in the East Texas Football Classic, defeating San Diego Mira Mesa en route to the 4A, Div. I Semifinals. 5A The Colony will also unveil a new head coach: Dan Burk from Navasota.
