Smith County authorities have in custody two suspects, they say, stole parts of a three-bedroom home in Lindale. Monday evening, Brandon Palmer of Sand Flat was taken into custody. Also arrested and jailed, 44-year-old Darrell Maxfield. Warrants were issued for the arrests of both suspects this morning.
Palmer and Maxfield are accused of stealing parts of a once fully-constructed home on Highway 69. Others came in and stole more parts until it turned into a pile of rubble.
Constable Dennis Taylor says his department has never worked a case like this and are surprised at what the parts were sold for. He says with Wal-Mart and Lowe's being built just yards away, the suspects tearing down the house just blended in with the rest of the construction.
Officials say they started this illegal trend of trading the house parts for cash and drugs. Now, as many as six to eight more people could be involved. "We know besides trading for methamphetamine, they got more than $1,000 for some of the lumber in different places. They still have some of the lumber at their residence they haven't sold or traded yet."
Now as authorities work to round up the parts to the home for evidence, it's likely the case of the missing house could come to a close.
