It was a special day of celebration for a Big Sandy church, on it's one-hundred-and-nineteenth birthday. Members of the "Hoskins Chapel Church" in Big Sandy gathered for a celebration and worship today for their church which was founded at a private home on a dirt road on may 20th 1886.
Orginally started as a "Brush Arbor", the little church has survived the depression , two world wars , and 2 fires.
The mayor of Big Sandy was on hand with generations of families who have attended. The secret to it's success is simple, according to it's pastor.
"I like to talk about love , and I always tell people who are down and out that God loves you and you can make it if you try," says pastor reverend Dr. L.C. Bowie.
"They have come back time after time after time, of adversity, and they have prevailed," says Big Sandy mayor Lynda Childriss.
