Freedom Fighter: Charles Wheeler

Charles Wheeler, a 2002 graduate of Spring Hill High School, joined the Marine Corps in 2002, carrying on a three generation "Blue Star Banner" family tradition.

Wheeler's great grandmother had worn the Blue Star symbol while his great grandfather was in World War I: His grandmother had also worn the pin while his grandfather fought in World War II, and now Wheeler's Mother faithfully wears the pin while he's in the Marines.

Wheeler was stationed in Northern Iraq for almost a year. Although his area was a "hot spot", constantly under attack, Wheeler's newly found faith in God sustained him.

When Wheeler returned home, he was greeted at th Gregg County Airport by children of Oak Forrest Montessori School, who had selected him as "their soldier". Their greeting, along with his familys' made coming home they much sweeter.
