East Texas Students Named "Texas Scholars"

More than 1,100 East Texas high school students are being honored at LeTourneau University for completing this rigorous, academic program. Texas Scholars is administered by the Greater Longview Organization for Business and Education, also known as GLOBE. The students have met the high school course requirements to become a part of this elite group, which prepares them for the workforce or to further their education.

GLOBE Co-chair Fred Jennings says,"We started in 1989 and had our 1st ceremony in 1991. We honored 220 students at that time. This year we're going to be honoring over 1,200. Over the years we've really seen a good growth, in fact, most of the area high schools have between 50-70% of their students graduate as Texas Scholars now."

GLOBE now includes 13 school districts in East Texas. The program even received national attention from President Bush.
