Building A Home Takes A Couple Of Hours?

In less time than it takes many of us to clean up the house two Tyler teams are being challenged to each construct a home from the ground up. The Tyler Area Builders Association wants to break a record that has stood for more than 20 years. Brian Conaway, the President of the Tyler Area Builders Association says a record of two hours and forty five minutes was set by the San Diego Home Builders in 1984.

He wants to break that mark by building a home in two and a half hours. On Tuesday Night, at the Association's membership meeting in downtown Tyler, they kicked off the "Two Hour House" project.

On October First the builders are going to give two teams two and a half hours to build a 2160 square foot concrete slab home, fully landscaped and ready to move in. The home will have three bedrooms, two baths and a two car garage.

City inspectors will be on-site to inspect each phase of the construction. Both teams will "rehearse" the process by building two practice homes. All four homes will be sold at market value with 100 percent of the profit donated to local charities. The biggest challenge now; the association is still hoping someone will donate the land for the homes.
