Van Vandals Win 3A State Championship

It took Van 63 years to make the drive to the state tournament. Now, the Vandals will make the trip back home with the class 3A state title.

Tournament MVP Brandon Roberts scored 21 points to steer Van to a 62-41 win over Graham in the state championship game. Wade Mackey added 11 points and Andrew Thompson had ten points and ten rebounds for the Vandals.

Thompson also was charged with defending Graham's Lee Berend, who scored 35 points in the state semifinal game. Berend was held to 15 points and 5 rebounds.

Graham shot just 16% from the field in the first half, and finished 14 of 53.Van set its offense on overdrive in the first half and raced to a 28-and-16 lead after two quarters.
