The Loss Of Community Leader: B.J. Pryor

B.J. Pryor passed away Saturday of natural causes at Hospice of East Texas. Pryor was the first black man in Texas to serve as the County Extension Chairman for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service.

He spent 39 years as an Extension Agent for Smith County and in 1984 was named President of the East Texas State Fair Association.

In 2000, Pryor was inducted into the Texas Heritage Hall of Honor at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Funeral services are pending.
